Troy Harmer & The Persuaders - Bio

 

With unstoppable momentum, the Persuaders are a guitar-driven trio fuelled by the creative efforts of singer, songwriter and guitarist Troy Harmer. A gifted guitarist and a powerful vocalist, Troy is an intense musician who pours his heart and soul into every captivating performance.

 

Since 1995, Troy has released 3 independent recordings and plans to release a brand new collection of 10 songs called Born To Sing The Blues. Formerly working under the names “The Troy Harmer Band” and “Troy Harmer & Infinity” Troy and his band have opened for such notable artists as Kim Mitchell and Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo.

 

Troy has performed at dozens of festivals and clubs throughout southern Ontario including It’s Your Festival in Hamilton, The Hamilton Food and Drink Festival at Copps Colosseum, Dundas Cactus Festival and the Festival of Friends. Over the past 20 years Troy has established a reputation for delivering the goods every time which has garnered him a legion of new fans everywhere he goes whom he affectionately refers to as "the Persuaded".

 

For his latest musical endeavour, Troy draws on his years of experience and the help of two of the best musicians he could find to forge his most solid line-up ever.

The Persuaders tough sound is characterized by slick grooves, funky riffs and raw energy. With fluent and versatile musicianship the band is able to stretch out beyond typical stylistic barriers and bridge together blues, rock, funk, soul and jazz influences to create their own unique style. When performing live the band keeps things fresh and exciting by incorporating improvised solos and instrumental interplay. Troy's lyrics draw upon his personal philosophies of positive change and songs about human relationships that have universal appeal and resonate with everyone.

Who is Troy Harmer?

 

Troy Harmer is a freelance musician working out of the greater Hamilton, Ontario area. With his main band Troy Harmer and the Persuaders, in which he is the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter he performs all of his Rockin' Blues, old school R&B and Classic Rock favourites along with his own original music. Troy's primary instruments are guitar and vocals but he also plays bass guitar, mandolin, drums, congas and alto sax. In addition to performing with the Persuaders, Troy also has a jazz trio, performs at wedding ceremonies as a solo guitarist and plays solo gigs singing and playing guitar at pubs. 

 

Troy also works with several other projects including Epic Elton (Elton John Tribute) Dreamer (Supertramp Tribute) Abba-mania (Abba Tribute) Nite Fever (Bee Gees Tribute) Quell The Swell (celtic music) and various acoustic duos and cover bands. Troy and his band have opened up for such notable artists as Kim Mitchell, Tom Wilson (of Junkhouse), Jim Cuddy (of Blue Rodeo), The Pursuit of Happiness, Rare Earth and Platinum Blonde.

On April 17th 2015, Troy Harmer and the Persuaders performed at the 3rd annual

“Let’s Shake” (a fund raiser for Parkinson’s diseases research) and were joined on stage by Gordie Lewis of Teenage Head.

​

Upon entering a Canada wide talent search competition Troy’s guitar playing skills captured the attention of music legend Randy Bachman (founding member of BTO and the Guess Who). As a result Troy was invited to join Randy and his band to perform at the Kitchener Blues Festival on August 7th 2015.

​

Troy has also toured across Canada and the US playing theatre shows and music festivals with tribute acts to Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac, Abba and The Bee Gees including shows at the Burlington Performing Arts Center and Stage West in Calgary.

 

In 2012 Troy’s original song “Die Trying” was voted the best song/most requested of the year on an internet radio show based out of Lake City, Florida called the CBRocker show.
